Paediatric Urologist

Verpleegkundige (MBO/HBO)

What will your job look like?

Paediatric Urology at Maastricht UMC+ is a tertiary referral centre serving an area that extends well beyond the province of Limburg. For more than 20 years, the department has played a pioneering role in the development of laparoscopic and robot-assisted techniques, as well as conventional surgical procedures, including innovative hypospadias repair techniques.

The future colleague will be expected to become fully involved in the outpatient, inpatient and surgical activities of the department, building on this tradition and, in time, contributing to further expertise or expanding the department’s areas of specialisation. Ample opportunity will also be provided for professional development in scientific research, undergraduate teaching, postgraduate medical training and management.

The role of paediatric urologist also includes involvement in the urological aspects of transitional care for patients moving from paediatric to adult healthcare. In addition, the successful candidate will participate in the department’s general on-call rota, which includes the treatment of adult patients. The proportion of the position devoted to adult patient care is estimated at 0.2 FTE.

What will your working environment look like?

The Department of Urology at Maastricht UMC+ is part of the Comprehensive Cancer Centre. It occupies a unique position in the Netherlands, as it combines its academic responsibilities with the provision of general urological care for the surrounding region. This results in a highly diverse patient population.

Within the Department of Urology, we treat children with congenital and acquired disorders of the urogenital tract. Our approach focuses not only on individual patient care, but also on strong multidisciplinary collaboration, extending from prenatal diagnostics through to the transition to adult healthcare. The Department of Urology is actively involved in, and plays a leading role within, the Maastricht UMC+ focus areas of Neurourology and Neuromodulation.

The Paediatric Urology team works closely with other specialties, including Paediatric Nephrology and Paediatric Surgery.

Paediatric Urology is one of the five core pillars of the Department of Urology at Maastricht UMC+. As part of the urology training programme, a resident is continuously assigned to the paediatric urology rotation or subspecialty placement. This ensures that medical education and knowledge transfer are firmly embedded in daily clinical practice.

As our new colleague, you will become part of a team of two paediatric urologists as well as the wider Urology medical staff. The department is also highly active in education and postgraduate training and conducts extensive scientific research, both within Maastricht UMC+ and in collaboration with the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences at Maastricht University.

What do we expect from you?

As a qualified or prospective paediatric urologist, you possess the following qualifications and will undertake the following responsibilities:
You are a recognised paediatric urologist or intend to obtain European FEAPU accreditation within a reasonable period.

You are a collaborative team member within our Paediatric Urology team and provide patient care in the outpatient clinic, inpatient wards and operating theatres.
You perform general duties within the Department of Urology and Paediatric Urology, including supervising residents and other junior doctors.
You participate in on-call rota within the adult Urology on-call pool.
You participate in multidisciplinary team meetings both within and outside Maastricht UMC+.

To be successful in this role, you must have a good command of the Dutch language, at a minimum of CEFR level B2, due to the need to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues and other parties.

You must also be legally entitled to work in the Netherlands, either through EU/EEA nationality or a valid work permit.

Before commencing employment, you must be able to provide a valid Certificate of Conduct issued by the Dutch authorities, known as a Verklaring Omtrent het Gedrag or VOG.

Salary

Depending on your qualifications and experience, the salary ranges from a minimum of €10.032,- to a maximum of €14,265 gross per month, based on a full-time appointment.
This salary excludes allowances for irregular working hours, holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus amounting to 8.3% of your gross annual salary.

Employment contract

This is a one-year fixed-term employment agreement for an average of 40–48 hours per week, pursuant to Article 2.4.2 of the Collective Labour Agreement for University Medical Centres (Cao umc). The agreement constitutes a temporary employment contract preceding an employment agreement for an indefinite period, as referred to in Article 2.3 of the Cao umc.

You will be expected to work irregular shifts during evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays.

What do we offer?

At Maastricht UMC+, we make sure you have everything you need to contribute to the best possible patient care. This includes an attractive and appropriate employment benefits package. Read more here about what we offer.
